What does standing timber mean?

There is an ad in our local news paper for a person who buys standing timber.. we have a tree that needs cut down really bad and would just let him have it if he came and cut it.. because to have it cut down is going to be outrageous.. So does standing timber mean timber that is still standing? Or is it timber that has fallen and is seasoned etc? Thnks
