How come Supernova explosions in space can be seen but not heard on Earth?

Sound cannot travel through the vacuum of space, but a supernova for a few weeks or months releases more energy than an entire galaxy. That is why we can see them from Earth, even from billions of light years away in other galaxies with telescopes.
