Roman Numerals related question?

In some cirstances C can mean century, M can mean millenium, but not in Roman numerals. The ancient Romans, when counting, made the mark C to represent 100, then the mark D to represent 500 and so on. The symbols X, C, D, M etc,are not abbreviations of words but simply marks to represent a number.
